The Director of the SAARC Agriculture Centre (SAC), Dr. Md. Golam Mahboob, presented an organisational memento to Dr. Elfatih Eltahir, H.M. King Bhumibol Professor of Hydrology and Climate and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), during his visit to MIT in Cambridge, USA.

Dr. Eltahir is the Lead Principal Investigator of the MIT JO-CREWSnet Project, which is being implemented in coastal Bangladesh in collaboration with BRAC. The project focuses on understanding the impacts of climate change and identifying effective adaptation strategies related to shelter, water security and agriculture, particularly in climate-vulnerable coastal communities.

During his week-long visit to MIT, Dr. Mahboob is participating in a series of meetings and technical discussions on ongoing research, climate adaptation and opportunities for future collaboration. The engagements provide a platform for exchanging scientific knowledge and exploring approaches to translating research findings into practical solutions for climate resilience.

The discussions also focus on strengthening institutional and research linkages between SAC and international academic and research institutions. Such collaboration can support knowledge sharing, capacity building and the development of evidence-based approaches to address emerging challenges in agriculture and climate change.

The visit reflects SAC’s continued commitment to strengthening international partnerships and promoting scientific cooperation on climate-resilient agriculture, water security, food systems and sustainable development. It also highlights the importance of connecting global research expertise with local and regional priorities across Bangladesh and South Asia.
