The SAARC regional training on “Molecular Diagnosis and Laboratory Surveillance of PPR was held on 14th to 18th July, 2025 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The meeting was organized by the SAARC Agriculture Centre, Dhaka in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Nepal and Gram Unnayan Karma, Bangladesh. The objective of the training was to develop the capacities of scientists/ professionals of national laboratories of the SAARC Member States on advanced laboratory techniques for the diagnosis of PPR and its surveillance mechanism.
The training was attended by the participants of six SAARC Member States, namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In addition to international speakers from FAO Rome, IAEA Vianna and NIVEDI-ICAR India attended as speakers in the training program. H.E. Dr. Deepak Kumar Kharal, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Nepal graced the occasion as the “Chief Guest” and conveyed her greetings to SAARC Agriculture Centre and SAARC Secretariat for undertaking the important training program like PPR.
At the closing session of the training program H.E. Ambassador Mr. Golam Sarwar was graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed the certificates among the participants.
